A group for Alex G's high school band - The Skin Cells （2006-2015） Alex Giannascoli and Sam Acchione‚ both from Havertown‚ a middle-class suburb of Philadelphia‚ became friends and started playing together in middle school․ Before The Skin Cells‚ they were in two bands called ＂Darryl and His Barrels＂ and ＂Japanese Water Plant＂․ The group was formed in 2008‚ shortly after Giannascoli had learned to play guitar․ Alex came up with the name after having a dream in which he and Acchione were in a band called ＂Barry White and the Dead Skin Cells＂․ They opened a MySpace page in December 2008 and started uploading songs in early 2009․
